  What is Edify Assistant?

Edify Assistant helps enabled users generate draft questions, draft learning resource content and revised versions of selected text. It provides suggestions for an authorised editor to review and choose from. It does not approve, validate or publish content and it does not guarantee that a result is accurate, complete, original, unbiased, mapped correctly or compliant.

Paid Feature

This is a paid add-on to your existing Catapult usage and/or subscription. Send an email to support@catapult-elearning.com if you are interested in activating this feature for your organisation.

Before you use Edify Assistant

Confirm that Edify Assistant appears in the relevant section or text editor. Availability depends on the service enabled for your organisation, your permissions, the resource and the component types supported in that context.

Before generating content:

  • identify the intended learner, task and outcome
  • gather current, authoritative source material
  • decide which qualified person will review the result
  • remove personal, confidential, commercially sensitive and unnecessary learner information from the prompt or selected text
  • confirm how the result will pass through your normal review, approval and validation controls

Treat every result as a draft. Do not publish or give it to a learner until a qualified person has reviewed and edited it.

Generate assessment content

Use Edify Assistant to generate suggestions for the component types available in the current section.

  1. Open the assessment section where you want to add content, then open Edify Assistant.
  2. Select relevant mapping items when mapping is available for the resource.
  3. Enter a Custom topic if the mapping items do not provide enough context or if you need to focus the result.
  4. Select one or more Component types shown for the section.
  5. Choose the Number of components for each component type.
  6. Select Generate.
  7. Review each suggestion. Drag only relevant components into the required section and remove suggestions you do not want to use.
  8. Use Regenerate or Reset when you need a different starting point.

Selecting a mapping item guides generation. It does not prove that the generated question or task validly assesses that requirement. Review the question, expected response, evidence requirements, assessor guidance and mapping together.

Generate learning resource content

Use Edify Assistant to prepare draft content from a clear prompt.

  1. Open the relevant Learning Resource section, then open Edify Assistant.
  2. Choose Text, Group, MCQ or T/F Question, according to the options shown.
  3. Enter a specific prompt that states the topic, learner context, purpose, required scope and any source constraints.
  4. Choose the number of components and any additional options shown for that content type.
  5. Select Generate.
  6. Review the suggestions. Drag only relevant components into the section and remove suggestions you do not want to use.
  7. Use Regenerate or Reset when the result is not a suitable starting point.

Check the structure, level, examples, terminology and learner suitability before adding a suggestion. Confirm every fact against an authoritative source.

Refine existing text

Select text in a supported editor, then open Edify Assistant and choose an action:

  • Summarise creates a shorter version of the selected content
  • Improve writing revises grammar, expression and readability while aiming to preserve meaning
  • Simplify language uses clearer language and phrasing
  • Expand writing adds explanation and detail while aiming to preserve meaning
  • Trim content removes repetition or unnecessary wording while aiming to retain key information

The result opens in an Edify Assistant dialogue for review. You can choose another refinement action, edit the result in the dialogue or select Insert Text. Close the dialogue if you do not want to use the result.

After inserting text, confirm that it appears in the intended location and that important meaning, instructions, answers, formatting and links have not changed unexpectedly.

Review every result before use

A qualified person must review and edit every result before it is published or used with learners. Check:

  • accuracy, currency and language
  • training product requirements and the intended learner context
  • the validity of assessment tasks, evidence requirements, suggested answers and assessor guidance
  • mapping against the final assessment content rather than the prompt alone
  • accessibility, clarity, cultural safety and potential bias
  • copyright, attribution, privacy and confidential information
  • consistency with related sections, online and print variants

Your RTO remains responsible for the training and assessment system. It must maintain its normal resource review, approval, validation and continuous-improvement controls. Edify Assistant does not make content compliant, validated or audit-ready.

Troubleshoot access or generation issues

If Edify Assistant is not available or does not generate a result:

  1. Confirm that you are working in a supported section or text editor.
  2. Confirm that the Assistant service is enabled for your organisation and that your role has access.
  3. For assessment generation, select at least one component type.
  4. Review the on-screen message and revise an empty, unclear or unsupported prompt.
  5. Use Reset, then try again with a smaller or more specific request.

If the issue continues, contact Customer Support on (08) 8275 9333 or support@catapult-elearning.com.
