What are Edify's features?
Edify provides tools for creating, reviewing and managing learning resources and assessment resources before they are delivered through Catapult LMS. Use this customer-facing feature reference to check what Edify can do before planning a workflow. The features you can use depend on your permissions, the resource type, the resource state and the services enabled for your organisation.
Create and manage resources
Depending on your access, you can:
- view and search the resources available to your organisation
- create a resource or start from an existing Catapult resource
- clone a resource for controlled adaptation or reuse
- organise resources and update identifying information where permitted
- archive resources that are no longer in active use and restore them when permitted
- track the status of a resource as it moves through review and publication
Resource creation, cloning and state changes are permission-dependent. Some actions are also limited by the resource type or its current state.
Build learning resources
You can create, rename, clone and arrange supported learning resource sections. Within a section, you can add and arrange content such as text, headings, groups, images, video, page breaks, quizzes and supported HTML or interactive activities.
Available content types can vary by resource and enabled service. Confirm the options shown in the section before planning a particular interaction or file type.
Create assessments and evidence activities
You can build and edit assessment questions, information blocks and evidence activities. Supported components can include:
- essay and short-answer questions
- table, multiple-choice and true or false questions
- drag-and-drop questions
- scenarios and information blocks
- performance or observation tasks
The components available in a section depend on its assessment type, your permissions and any organisation limits. Your registered training organisation (RTO) must confirm that each activity is suitable for the training product and intended assessment context.
Organise assessment sections and topics
Authorised users can add, rename, clone and arrange supported assessment sections and topics. Depending on the section and resource state, they can also disable or remove content that is no longer required.
Changing assessment structure can affect mapping, instructions, the online variant and print outputs. Review those areas after changing, disabling or removing a section, topic, question or task.
Manage instructions and supporting information
You can organise assessment sections and topics, then maintain the information that learners, trainers, assessors and other authorised users need. This can include learner instructions, assessor guidance, supporting information, declarations and evidence-related content.
The available supporting-information sections depend on the resource type and configuration. Keep learner-facing and assessor-only information separated through the approved resource design and access controls.
Use media and reusable content
You can use the Media Library to find and reuse supported media and files. Users with the required access can upload and manage organisation media. Depending on the content area, you can also add attachments and create, update or reuse approved boilerplate and declaration content.
Check file type, file size, copyright, privacy and accessibility requirements before adding media. A file being accepted by Edify does not mean that it is suitable for every learner or delivery context.
Map content to training product requirements
For supported training product resources, you can map assessment questions and tasks to applicable training product requirements. Mapping helps reviewers trace where content is intended to address a requirement.
Mapping does not prove that an assessment is valid, sufficient or compliant. Your RTO must review the assessment content, evidence requirements and mapping together.
Design the online learner experience
The online variant lets authorised users arrange supported sections and content for delivery through Catapult LMS. Depending on their permissions and the resource, users can also update the left-hand menu and supported unit home-page settings. You can review the structure and available section settings in Edify before publication.
Edify does not provide a complete learner preview of every assessment interaction. Review the version placed in Catapult LMS before approval. Edify is the authoring and governance environment; enrolments, learner activity, submissions and assessment decisions are managed in Catapult LMS.
Prepare print outputs
The print variant lets authorised users arrange supported resource sections, customise an available cover, preview the print structure and generate supported PDF outputs. Print features depend on the resource, its state and your permissions. Some PDF outputs are available only from the print dashboard or at a particular resource state.
Review each generated file before use. Confirm page order, content visibility, answer or assessor material, accessibility and version details rather than assuming the online and print variants are identical.
Review, control and publish changes
Authorised users can review resource history, including the action, description, time and user recorded for a change. Where available, they can filter online or print history and view resource versions.
Users with the required permissions can also manage the resource state. When a resource has passed your organisation's review and approval process, they can prepare it for publication to Catapult LMS.
Publication does not replace your RTO's approval, validation or change-control processes. Test the published version that learners and assessors will use.
Manage users, organisation settings and permissions
Users with the required administration permissions can create, edit, disable or restore Edify users and clone an existing user's permissions. They can update the permissions available to another user only within the limits of their own access. Organisation details and branding are also restricted to users with the applicable organisation permissions.
Edify permissions are grouped around:
- viewing, creating, cloning and changing the state of resources
- editing Learning Resources, assessments and supporting information
- accessing and updating the online and print variants
- viewing history and preparing approved resources for publication
- managing users, organisation details, boilerplate and the Media Library
Many actions require a related view permission first. Availability can also depend on the resource type, resource state and services enabled for the organisation. See An Overview of Edify Permissions for the permission settings documented in the Help Centre, then confirm the current options shown when editing the user.
Assign only the access a person needs. Review permissions when responsibilities change or when a sensitive assessor resource is introduced.
Use enabled Edify services
Edify Assistant can help enabled users generate draft assessment or Learning Resource content and refine selected text. Its availability depends on the service being enabled for the organisation, the current resource context and the user's permissions.
See Use Edify Assistant to create and refine content for the supported workflows and mandatory review safeguards.
Voice-to-text is a separate editor feature that can convert speech into text in supported browsers and content areas. It requires browser microphone access. You must review and save the resulting text. See Using voice-to-text in Edify.
What to confirm for your organisation
Before relying on a feature, confirm:
- that the relevant service is enabled for your organisation
- that your role has the required permission
- that the feature supports the resource type and current resource state
- that the required component, section, online or print option appears in your current Edify view
- that your organisation has an owner for review, approval and publication
If an expected feature is not available, contact Customer Support on (08) 8275 9333 or support@catapult-elearning.com.
