Using voice-to-text in Catapult LMS

Have more questions? Submit a request

Catapult LMS allows students and trainers to capture their own natural speaking voice and convert that into written text on the screen. This feature is primarily intended to be used for submitting and responding to assessments, as can be seen below.

  Important note regarding browsers

This feature is only available in browsers with corresponding support. We recommend that you use Google Chrome (or similar Chromium-based browsers) for best results. Firefox does not currently support this feature.

Using voice-to-text in-system

As a student, when you access your assessments, you may notice a series of microphone icons present throughout the assessments (usually in the top-right corner of each assessment response box;

These microphone icons are present in all Knowledge question style assessments, Observation style assessments, Skills Recognition, etc.

When you click on a microphone icon, your browser may push a request to allow the use of your device's microphone. If this happens, click the Allow button to proceed.

At this point, you can now begin speaking naturally into your microphone, and your internet browser will convert your speech into written text on the page. When you are done, click the microphone icon again to stop entering text.

Note that you may need to review the grammar and punctuation of your response. You will also still need to click the Save button to actually save your answer.

Similarly, trainers can use this functionality to save feedback comments. After applying a grade to a question, you can click the microphone icon that appears in the top right of the "Trainer feedback" text box to use voice-to-text.

Note that any questions that have been configured as table-style (i.e. multiple answer cells inside a table-like structure) may not have the speech-to-text option available for the individual response cells.

This functionality is not currently available for use in Administration-level tasks, but we welcome any and all feedback and suggestions on how to improve this feature! Please send any suggestions to support@catapult-elearning.com.
