Below is a short video demonstrating how to use Edify to create high-quality and fluid assessment for your students to use on Catapult LMS. This works seamlessly with Edify's new Learning Resource Builder, and is supported by our Edify Assistant AI Tool.

Learn how to edit, create, publish, and structure engaging, compliant assessment content using Edify.
Understanding Edify's Unit Structure
Before getting started, it is helpful to understand how Edify is structured. A unit consists of two distinct environments:
- Sections Tab (Primary Workspace):
- This is your main workspace where you build and store all your assessment tools and supporting content.
- Online Variant (Learner View):
- This controls the learner's experience within the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Allows you to arrange and lay out sections exactly as students will see them.
Building & Editing Sections
Editing Existing Questions
- Navigate to the Sections tab.
- Click on an assessment section (e.g., Knowledge questions).
- Click a Topic to expand it, then click on the specific question you wish to modify.
- Click the Edit (pencil) icon.
- Update the question or answer text in the corresponding text boxes.
- Click Save.
Assessment Section Types in Edify
To create a new custom section, click the + button at the end of the Assessment workspace. You can select from three main assessment types:
- Trainer marked - written responses:
- Requires manual marking by a trainer.
- Designed for written-response questions.
- Supports all assessment components and allows file attachments.
- Quiz – answer selection:
- Answer selection question types (e.g., Multiple Choice, True/False, Short answer, Drag and Drop).
- Useful for non-gradable self-checks or auto-marked assessments.
- Observations - performance-based tasks:
- Ideal for practical, performance-based tasks.
- Both students and trainers can upload attachments or record video evidence at any time.
- Includes dedicated trainer note sections at the end of each task.
Creating a Custom Assessment Section
- Click + button and select your desired Assessment type.
- Enter a unique Title for your new section.
- Under the Section Components tab, toggle on the question components you want to make available.
- Under the Section Mapping tab, enable any relevant mapping criteria.
- Click Save.
- Click into the newly created section from the workspace list.
- Drag question component from the right-side panel into your assessment.
- Enter your question and answer content by typing or using the Voice to Text feature.
- Optional: Use the toolbar to insert images or media assets stored in your Media Library.
- Click Save.
Mapping & Supporting Information
Mapping Questions to Unit Standards
- Open the section and question you want to map.
- Open the Mapping in the Right-side Menu.
- Click and drag the relevant mapping component (Elements, Performance Criteria, Knowledge Evidence, or Performance Evidence) directly into the question’s mapping area.
- View overall unit mapping coverage at any time via the Unit Mapping Section under Supporting Info.
Adding Supporting Information Sections
- In Sections, scroll down to Supporting info.
- Click + button at the end of the section.
- Select Custom from the description drop-down menu and give it a unique Title.
- Use the text box provided to add text or insert downloadable resources from the Media Library.
- Click Save.
Designing the Learner Experience & Publishing
- Switch to the Online tab on the left navigation menu.
- Go to either the Assessments or Supporting Info view.
- Click the + button at the end of the section list.
- In the pop-up, select Section as the type, then choose your newly built section from the second drop-down.
- Click Save.
- Rearrange section order by dragging and dropping sections into your preferred sequence.
- Optional: Click the Settings (cog) icon on the top right of the screen to set the Default landing section learners see first.
- Optional (Trainer-only content): Click the Edit icon on a supporting info section and check Trainer only to restrict the section to only be visible to Trainers.
Publishing Your Unit in Edify (Mark as Ready)
- Once all editing is complete, click the blue Mark as Ready button in the top-right corner of the screen.
- Enter a comment describing your updates; specifying whether it is a major (update for new enrolments) or a minor (update for all enrolments).
- Click Yes to submit your unit for review by the Catapult team. The team will then send your unit to the LMS for you to review and approve.
