Catapult x Red Velvet - VelvetPath RPL

Have more questions? Submit a request

Catapult has partnered with Red Velvet AI to bring VelvetPath, an AI-powered RPL pre-assessment tool, directly into your Catapult Skills Recognition section.

RPL has always been one of the most time-consuming, high-risk workflows in VET: manual evidence sorting, slow turnaround, inconsistent mapping. This solution changes that.

Your students can now start an RPL pre-assessment without leaving Catapult. They upload their evidence, and VelvetPath intelligently maps it to their Units of Competency, identifies gaps, and generates personalised follow-up questions—all before your assessor opens the file.

This article provides some resources to assist your implementation of the Catapult x Red Velvet solution.

Here is some helpful content from Red Velvet on the solution, how it works and common FAQs:

Catapult workflow recommendations for post completion:

For enrolments where the RPL process via Red Velvet is completed and approved the following Catapult actions are recommended:

  1. Either the learner or the trainer assessor can upload the Application Outcome CSV and the competency summary PDF to the unit of competency in Catapult's Additional Evidence field. Please note the learner will need to submit the unit for final determination.
  2. The trainer can then make the final determination by marking the unit using the standard workflow (Final Marking Button). We recommend that the trainer make a note in the Reference to the additional evidence comment box found by selecting Yes as per below image. We also recommend leaving a comment for the learner referencing the RPL process.

This process is recommended to ensure that units under RPL are included when the completed unit is retrieved from the Catapult LMS. It will also ensure third party Student Management System (SMS) integrations can determine the unit has been completed.

This process also ensures that the transcript generated within the Catapult unit directly references that an RPL process has taken place instead of standard assessment.

FAQs

  1. Why is the RPL button not appearing on certain units? The Red velvet process is only available for standard Catapult units and does not apply to any contextualised versions at this stage.
  2. My learner isn't seeing a unit page in Red Velvet after selecting the RPL button? Contact us to have the unit re-prioritised in the roll out plan. Units have been added in order of their overall popularity.
