What is Edify?
Edify is an online editing software tool that allows assessment contextualisation for use through the Catapult LMS. This puts the control back in the hands of RTOs to create, modify and contextualise the assessments for their learners.
Edify allows greater flexibility in the way that:
- assessments are designed and presented to learners
- learners can provide evidence of their skills and understanding
- learners can be assessed in their competency
When you use the Edify tool, you will have different options depending on your requirements to edit our existing standard Catapult resources.
Overview of Catapult Standard Resources
Our resources are Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) Units of Competency-based on training.gov.au data.
The resources have a theory (Learning resource) component that can be accessed through the Catapult LMS and complimentary assessments.
The default assessment sections in standard Catapult units include:
- Skills recognition
- Knowledge questions
- Projects
- Performance tasks
- Practical assessment
Some resources will not contain all of these assessment sections, depending on their requirements.
Please refer to the Default Assessment Sections article to gain a deeper understanding of the default assessment sections.
Customising Catapult Standard Resources
If a standard Catapult resource does not meet the specific requirements of your learning cohort, there is an option to customise the assessment.
Customising assessments could include:
- altering the wording of questions
- creating new questions/ deleting existing questions
- disabling/ enabling assessment sections
- changing mapping components
There is also the option to create new assessment sections.

Assessment Sections and Questions/Tasks
The Catapult unit assessment sections are categorised depending on the type of assessment required.
The assessment types are:
- Trainer-marked questions to provide knowledge-based evidence
- Observational tasks to provide performance-based evidence
- Auto-marked quiz-style questions
Each section can contain multiple questions and task types, including:
- Scenario questions
- Essay questions
- Table questions
- Multiple choice questions
- Short answer questions
- True/false questions
- Tasks
- Drag and Drop into Text questions
The selection of which type of assessment or question to use will depend on specific requirements. To learn more about the different types of questions, refer to the Introduction to Questions Types article.
Mapping
For Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) units, all questions and tasks can be mapped against the specific assessment requirements of the Unit of Competency.
When an NRT unit is created in Edify, mapping components are imported directly from training.gov.au.
Standard Catapult units map assessment questions and tasks against specific mapping components, which can be customised to suit requirements.
The Edify tool records user interaction, which helps track unit development history and version control.
To gain a deeper understanding of the different types of questions, refer to the Mapping article.
Boilerplate and Media Library
Edify will also allow you to edit existing instructions within standard Catapult units with your own unique instructions to your learners through the Boilerplate. The Boilerplate content can be used to manage instructions and information for your learners.
Images and file attachments for your units can be stored in your organisation's unique media library.
If you would like to hear more about the Edify software, please contact our team to organise a demonstration of the system at a time and date that suits you.
