What is the Media Library?
The Media library is where any file types required for the assessment of a Unit of Competency can be stored. This article will cover how to use the Media Library and what files can be used in Edify
Organisations can upload a variety of file types to use for their resources including:
Images | .gif .jpeg .jpg .png .svg .svgz .webp |
PDFs | |
Audio | .flac .m4a .m4b .mp3 .mp4 .oga .wma |
Video | .3g2 .3gp .avi .flv .m2v .m4v .mov .mpeg .mpg .ogg .ogv .wav .webm .wmv |
Other Files | .csv .doc .docx .dot .dotx .html .ppsx .ppt .pptx .rtf .txt .xls .xlsb .xlsx .xlt .xltx .zip |
Files that are only required for one unit can be uploaded as Unit specific, whereas files required across numerous units can be uploaded as Common media.
- Go to the Media Library page.
- Decide if the file is required:
- Only for this unit—click the Unit Specific tab
- Across many units—click the Common Media tab
- New Media assets can be added using two different methods:
-
In the top-right corner, click Upload Media. This opens the file browser where you can search for and select the required file. Select the file and click open.
-
Click and drag the file directly into the Media Library window.
-
Media Library files can be inserted when editing text-based content, such as questions or tasks.
-
When a question is open for editing, click the button at the end of the toolbar (three dots) to expand it.
-
Click the Media Library button.
-
The Media Library window will appear, allowing you to upload or drag files as above.
When a new version of a file (or image) is created, it will need to replace the existing version of the file in the media library.
To upload a new file version, it must use a unique name—usually by appending a version control (number or date) to the end of the file.
Obsolete versions of files should be archived to keep the media library tidy and up-to-date. In the Media Library, files can be archived if they are located in either the Unit Specific or Common Media tabs.
To archive a file, locate the file in the Media Library, click the Settings menu in the bottom-right corner of the file and click Archive in the dropdown menu.
Once a file has been archived, it can no longer be inserted into units. Existing links to this file that have been previously inserted will remain active and usable. These links may need to be replaced with a link to the new version of the file.
To unarchive a file, locate the file in the Archived tab of the Media Library, click the Settings menu in the bottom-right corner of the file and click Unarchive in the dropdown menu.
